FAQ’S

Q:  What ages are offered in BYA Prime baseball?  A: 6UTB, 7UCP, 8UCP, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U (60/90), 16U,18U.  We may combine age groups based on the total number of teams signed up to play.  (Example:)  If we have 3 9U teams and 3 10U teams we would combine into a 6 team 10U division.

Q: How can I get my son on a Prime team?  A: Prime teams are formed individually and generally require you to contact the team directly and set up a try out with that team.

Q:  Does BYA host tryouts for the Prime teams?  A: No.  Each Prime/ Select team sets their own tryout schedule and requirements.  You will need to contact the team you are interested in playing for on your own to set up a tryout.

Q:  How do I find a Prime team for my son?  A:  There are many bulletin and message boards in the market advertising teams looking for players.  We recommend the one on the PONY Elite Baseball site.

Q:  Does BYA register individual players for the Prime league?  A: No. We only register complete teams that are already formed.  Individual players register for the rec league and are draft to rec teams.

Q: Does BYA allow Prime teams to play with Rec teams?  A: No.  Under no circumstance does BYA allow a Prime select team to play against rec drafted teams.

Q:  What is the talent level of Prime teams?  A: Teams are between AA/D2 level to AAA, Major,D1 level.  The overall number of teams in a division dictate the breakdown of the talent level for league play.

Q:  Does BYA allow select teams that are from outside the Burleson area in to play in the BYA Prime baseball program?  A: Yes.  Any team from any location can play in the BYA prime league.

Q:  When is the Prime spring season?  A:  Starts mid march after spring break.  Season ends by May 31.

Q:  How many games long is the spring season?  A: 12 league games and a playoff for top 4 teams in each division.

Q:  What days are played in the spring season?  A:  Tuesday and Thursday are designated game days.  Rain out make ups are played on Wednesdays.

Q:  Do you ever play league play on weekends?  A:  No.  Weekends are left open for tournament play only!

Q:  What time do prime league games played?  A:  6:00 pm is the general start time for the first game slot and the second game is scheduled 15 minutes after the first game concludes.

Q:  What measures are taken for teams traveling from outside the city?  A:  The scheduler generally follows the pattern that prime games are scheduled for the later time slots to give teams enough time to travel in.  Once all the late time slots are taken, schedule then starts scheduling the earlier 6:00 pm time slot.

Q:  What are roster sizes?  A:  Min 9, Max 15. It is recommended to carry 12 players on your roster.

Q:  What is the age cutoff?  A:  Spring- April 30th (current year).  Fall- April 30th (following year)

Q:  Can my prime team qualify and play in the PONY National All Star tournament?  A:  Yes.  As a bonus, teams that play in the spring league are eligible to play in the PONY All Star tournament but in the “Elite” or “Select” division against other select teams, not the “Traditional” division.

Q:  What’s the difference between Prime and Select?  Nothing.  “Prime” is just the name of our program at Burleson.  Prime teams just like Select teams hand pick and recruit their players, unlike a rec team that is drafted.

Q:  What if my team is not good enough to play in the Prime league?  A:  “Prime” or “Select” just determines how your team is put together.  Players are recruited and hand picked.  How good a player or team is in the eye of the beholder.

Q:  We heard that some teams pay their coaches?  A:  Correct.  Some teams do choose to pay their coaches.  And it is perfectly acceptable if they want to.

Q:  When is the Prime fall season? A:  The fall prime season starts just after Labor Day and concludes generally around the first of November.

Q:  What days are games played in the fall?  A:  All games are played on Wednesdays only.

Q:  How many games are in Prime fall league?  A:  8.  Plus a playoff for the top 4 teams in each division to determine league champion.

Q:  Can a team play down in age division?  A:  No.  Under no circumstance do we allow a team to play down in age.

Q:  Do you take schedule requests?  A: No.  We schedule around STARR testing only.  If a team is unable to play due to lack of players, they will need to just take a forfeit.  We only reschedule rain outs.
